Bass Guitar Players Who Is Changing the World

Some people think that if you want to change the world you're not a bass player, but into something more challenging and stimulating as the Post Office. But the myth describes how real bass players? Let's move to withdraw from the common way we see the drummer as a member of the tedious but necessary. Such as the accountants. This short list of some notable (and women) of the bass will allow you to see that this does not seem to show themselves members of a band may be the creative powerhouse.

Purchase The Guitar Player Book - The Ultimate Resource for Guitarists

Over All Rating Reviews :
For the price, this collection of articles from Guitar Player magazine, is a great deal. I used to think Guitar Player magazine was just for kids. After coming back to guitar playing after 15 years, I have been surprised (pleasantly) by the high quality of the articles. Reading these articles is both informative and inspirational. I have been exposed to new styles, techniques, and players. Plus, my knowledge of guitar playing and the world of guitar has expanded.

Note that this book is perhaps best suited for those who play rock, blues and metal, and perhaps less oriented towards jazz, country, and other styles. If that fits you, it's worth checking this out. Happy playing!

Buy The Guitar Player Book - The Ultimate Resource for Guitarists

Over All Rating Reviews :
I own Secrets from the Masters, a previous book filled with interviews with great players and it rocks. I thought Guitar Player Book was going to be similar, and although it is, I found it a little lacking in that respect.

Dont get me wrong, it has great texts from Hendrix to Segovia and his hate for the electric guitar, and it ranges from you guessed it, 1966 to 2006. But I found some of the material maybe a little eclectic, maybe in their attempt to present variety, we got a headless collage of pretty short, one page interviews. Some of the interviews are just getting on with the talk, and then are suddenly finished, leaving you wanting to know more from the artist.

Some artists are missing, like Robert Cray (how?!) and some less unknown players are featured.

It's no secret that although versatile, Guitar Players is aimed for the elite of players (The ones that can sight read) and you'll find yourself skipping the pages if you cant read notes, specially Frank Zappa's colum from the 80's. All other columns and tips are pretty much the same, and a CD would've been a great addition. (No, I'm not learning to read, I'd rather spend that time playing)

The section on most famous pedal effects is great (Distorto!) and there are some valuable tips from players to further your technique of the instrument.

In all, a very nice book for those that have been fans of the magazine, or those that like me bought it from time to time.

Shop For Guitar Synth and MIDI (Guitar Player Magazine Basic Library)

Over All Rating Reviews :
This is a great resource, even now almost 20 years later. I play 2 different MIDI Guitars from the 80's and it helped me appreciate what I have and what other options there are out there still. Midi Synth guitar has some of the unique and rare guitars highlighted and reviewed in detail.
This will help you if you have thought about buying an old synth ax on Ebay. Also very helpful are the detailed explanations of the technical aspects of midi synthesizer sounds, and interesting profiles on musicians. By the way I play a Jackson Charvel Electric Guitar with a Roland GK2 midi pickup through a Roland Midi Synth linked up to a Korg i40m midi unit. The sounds are awesome and great with our church praise band. I also play a Casio MG510 and it too is great with the Korg unit directly. With the late 80's midi guitars they are reasonable and still quite the cool thing. My son has a Casio DG10, and is hoping to upgrade to a DG20 (Flight of the Concords uses this).
In case anyone hadn't figured out the reason for using midi guitars, it is the concept of having a guitar make about any sound imaginable or play about any instrument sound. People are blown away when I play an orchestra, panflute, church organ, banjo,.... on my six string electric. They keep looking around wondering where that sound is coming from.

Overall ,it is a good book. When they mention all goodies in the blurb, keep in mind the interviews I think are not complete. For example, in the interview with Jerry Garcia having seen the original issue I think it is a bit abridged.

I would say is a really nice book to browse through leisurely rather than be treated as a reference book.
